Focus on Health Advice

Welcome to the Council for Disabled Children’s Health Advice online training.

This training is aimed at adults with a role to play in the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) system in particular to giving health advice.

The course will help you understand the role of good advice in the plan.

There are three options and each one is for different audiences. Find the option that fits your role best.

Option 1 is for Health colleagues who:

  • Are new to the world of SEND
  • May occasionally give advice for EHCPs

Option 2 is intended for Health colleagues who:

  • Regularly give advice for EHCPs
  • Already have a clear understanding of the purpose of an EHCP, from the child or young person’s perspective
  • Already have a clear understanding of the difference between aspirations, outcomes sought and SMART outcomes
  • Already have a clear understanding of the holistic nature of outcomes

Option 3 is intended for Health colleagues who:

  • Have a strategic role in the EHCP process
  • Have a role in quality assurance
  • Already have a good understanding of aspirations as the golden thread through the plan

Each option will take approximately 45-60 minutes, you can work through at your own pace. You do not need to complete all of the lessons on the same day.

You will see from the menu on the left, options 1 and 2 include two and option 3 includes one lesson excluding the introduction. We recommend you complete all of them in order. The menu on the left will track your progress through the course. At the end, we will ask you to complete a final survey.

Use the menu links to navigate to each lesson and the arrows at the bottom of the screen to navigate through the content. When you've finished a lesson, click the 'Finish' button to mark that lesson as complete. All sections of the course must be complete before the certificate can be released. 

You will then be able to download your certificate by clicking on the large tick above the menu, or you can return to the 'My trainings' section using the icon to the left of the menu where your certificates will be saved.
